What is Lipedema?

Lipedema is a poorly recognized disease and usually goes undiagnosed and untreated.  It is a fat disorder that may be inherited, almost exclusively in women.  It is characterized by excess deposits of fat which cannot be lost through normal weight loss.  Lipedema may compromise the lymphatic system, causing secondary lymphedema.
